Friday Flash Fiction – He Smiled

Wasn’t the first time I’d seen him. Though tonight, as was each night, the sight of him across the crowded room left me breathless. He moved from clique to clique, his smile never wavering, his full lips seemingly fuller with each sip from his champagne.

I mimicked him, sipping my own, admiring his broad knuckled hand spread wide but gently at the small of each lucky lady’s back. Growing weary with each pass, each movement, I wondered what it would be like to be one of those ladies, to feel that touch, to see that pleasantry aimed my way.

He looked to me and he smiled.
