I love Google alerts, especially when I discover a new review for one of my books on one! Alan Chin, SF GLBT Literary Examiner for Examiner.com, gave The Zagzagel Diaries: Denial a fab review. Interestingly enough, the reviewer interprets my Zagzagel as female. While, I don’t see Zag that way, it’s all good I often leave much to reader interpretation and am always thrilled when different readers can enjoy the same story for whatever reasons. In Denial, I’m not sure I painted Zagzagel as either gender, for example. Anyway, the review is AWESOME, nevertheless. And I’m thrilled Alan Chin has such nice things to say about my writing and style. Thank you, Alan! You’re review is very, VERY much appreciated!

When I heard this new short story from Untreed Reads Publishing was written by an 18 year old, I was compelled to purchase it immediately. I’m extremely pleased I did too! Number Theory is a quick read at only 1570 words, but it was well worth the buck and some change. Fast, funny, and true to life . . . so true to life, I felt as if I were back in school again. I could smell the the chalk, see the teachers in all their haughtiness, and feel the stare of the kid sitting next to me. That one look, that one moment so utterly confusing and yet so enlightening you never forget it–that’s what Number Theory is about. How all at once, one’s life can be suddenly turned upside down and yet set right, this story’s few words illustrate that moment to perfection. Much like all things Math, Number Theory was flawless. Perfect.

The author of Number Theory, Noah Bogdonoff, is only 18 years of age. All I can say is should this young man pursue writing as a career, he will definitely succeed. Bravo to you, Noah! Give us more. Please.

The late Carole Lombard is alleged to have said, pertinent to Clark Gable’s sexual equipment, “Pappy ain’t got much, but what’s down there is cherse.”

The same could be said of this admittedly slim bit of erotica. Not a lot of words, but what’s here is choice. For whatever reason (and you’d think it would be otherwise) most writers don’t do maverick all that well. More often than not, it comes out all poses and bluff, like little boys playing at pirates. On the other hand, from what I’ve seen, this author’s chosen are almost inevitably the misfits, the square pegs in the round holes, the lost lambs. Indeed, Bryl Tyne could well be the poet laureate of the outsider.

The protagonist here is Chaz, a classic square peg—outside the family who booted him, outside the school that dropped him and, after getting arrested in a raid on a sex hangout, inside jail, which is way outside the borders of polite society. So when he gets an offer for rehab…but, I really can’t tell you much more of the plot without giving it all away.

Don’t expect a lot of subtleties here. This is wham-bam man on man action, with just enough story to hold it all together, though I’m willing to bet you’ll be rooting from the beginning for outsider Chaz to find his way in from the cold.

If this is your cup of tea, you’ll find it well-brewed. But, be forewarned, Reverend, it’s definitely not for the prim and prissy.

Always wonderful to start the week with an insightful review of one of my books. Lily, at I Love Books, posted a very insightful review of BEST UNSPOKEN. I’m extremely happy that she enjoyed the story and came to understand my characters, Levi & Rob.

Lily says about BEST UNSPOKEN, “I really enjoyed this story. The plot is simple without being boring, it’s solid and well-written, the characters are interesting and the sex is hot. My favorite part is at the end, when we witness the true depths of the bond between Levi and Rob. Despite all outward appearances, their relationship is solid, built on love and trust, and Levi’s rediscovery of that makes for a wonderful ending to this story.”

And then goes on to highlight one of my favorite parts of the book…My mother hadn’t a clue. Rob was neither jealous nor controlling. My friends were so wrong. This was how we discovered each other’s needs, filled each other’s desires. Our communication was best unspoken.
